Okay, I realized what I said earlier, and talking about my excessively fast driving was wrong. I want to formally apologize to you guys for that. Yes, I am a teenager, yes, I do realize that it's really dangerous what I'm doing, and yes, I understand that it will eventually lead to me or (God forbid) someone else getting hurt. Also, I'm sorry for bitching about my car because I do know that I don't deserve that thing. I did absolutely nothing to earn it. I'm just having a rough couple of days here...
Again, I'm sorry about my behavior, and I'll try to not do this as much anymore.
Have a Porsche as a measly appeasement...

Don't apologize, change your behavior. It's absolutely ridiculous that you would be doing 130 MPH on a public road. And it may be your fast driving that is hurting your car to a point. If it's breaking down that often...........
And I only say this because it would be a shame to lose your contributions because unsafe driving got you hurt.

I should, but I'm addicted to the speed man... I feel most at home bombing down backroads...
I try to be safe about it, like slowing down when i notice oncoming traffic and such, but it is still dangerous, i know. I will try and change, that I promise. hopefully before the police catch on...
and yeah! who'd do the late-nite music if I'm in a coma for 6 months?!

yea, speed is a great thing. I know. I have a motorcycle. but I dont run up to 110 6 times a night. Its going to hurt a lot of things. your car, for starters. as you are already experaincing that. your wallet (see item #1) and god forbid you lose control and something much more serious happens to you or someone else.
your not a dumb kid. yes, we have all been there. But you have to learn to slow down.

I'm sorry for shitting on you earlier, but I only do it because stuff like that is so fucking dangerous. Please realize that driving like that on public roads will only have a negative outcome. It hasn't happened yet, but it is sure to happen at some point. I understand the whole invincible teenager thing. I've been there and done that. I've done my fair share of stupid shit, trust me.
Don't try to change the way you drive. Actually do it. We all know you can. You know you can. If you get the itch to go fast, please take it to a track. That's the best and safest way to get the speed out of your system. If you think "oh it's too expensive to have a track/autocross day" compare that to the cost of a ticket/jail time/license revocation/lawyer fees if you get caught doing 130 in your car.
Stay safe out there, brother.

only 30 min away? lucky you.
closest track to me is mosport, and its a 2 hour drive there.
want a trick to slow down? Forget trying to go as fast as you can. try to keep your fuel economy as high as possible. you have a fairly new car, there is a digital read out of the consumption there. keep tring to eek just that extra little bit of range out of it.

I can't get angry at someone for driving like a dumb ass when I do too. We're stupid teenagers. I do recommend either slowing down or not saying anything on Oppo about it. Or both.
As for bitching about your car, I think it's perfectly okay to complain when your 2012 MY car is throwing check engine lights. Whether you deserve it or not is debatable, but I'm about to get my second car for basically free, So I have No room to judge.

That exam was my greatest moment of brilliance. I walked in and took it without ever taking the class, scored a 4. Was purely epic, as I was the only person in my room to have not taken the class, I only took regular US History.
Too bad I couldn't use the credit at my engineering school, because there's no history class for it to be applicable.

I've attended too many RTCs (Road Traffic Collisions) to accept 'I' addicted to speed', there is a time and a place for speed and excessive speed belongs on the track.
I've known drivers only realise what they've done after a serious RTC, some have had minor injuries and some have had life altering injuries, some have even got away completely unharmed but their occupants and or those of the other vehicle have had serious injuries or died. Don't let it have to be one of these incidents for you to realise what you've been doing. You want to drive the way you do, do it away from others as it's completely unacceptable and selfish to put other lives at risk because 'I'm addicted to speed'.
Go to your local police station and ask to watch a video on what happens when excessive speed is the cause of the collision, they aren't pretty and I hope you never have to be in the same view point I've been in when you attend the scene and you know straight away all the training you've had and experience you've gleened is worth jack as there is nothing at all you can do. I got out of that game because I was becoming hardened to it and you should never become hardened to something like that.

I totally understand what you're feeling though. I had some second thoughts after I got my Wrangler (having to deal with Penta-shit cylinder heads, inconvenience of the soft-top, only being able to go 85mph max, etc.). No car is perfect, but if you think of all the positive aspects of your car, and consider how fortunate you (we) as young people are to have such nice/new cars, or a car at all for that matter, you can't help but feel grateful for what you have.

Pro tip: Maybe try a Miata. 80 in those things feels like 130 in a normal-sized car. And GLI's never look good in 'the abstract' (see below)

Apologizing over the internet isn't a way to change your ways. You actually have to change them yourself, and I hope you do before you end up hurting somebody.
1. Stop complaining about your free car you chose yourself, and how it's not "fast" enough for you. It just makes you sound like a spoiled teenager.
2. Stop driving so fucking fast. 130 mph on a public road is never acceptable, and if you were in Virginia you'd be spending a week in jail and would leave without a licence.
3. Stay safe. You're an inexperienced driver, try to take it easy a bit.

But seriously, do slow down. Thank you for understanding that we were just trying to give you some 'real talk' rather than crap all over you. I'm pretty sure that we've all exceeded the speed limit plenty of times, but an amount of judgement is needed, and although it's hard to draw the line as to what is safe and what is not, those kinds of speeds definitely are not.
It is a bit hard to hear you complaining about an awesome car you got for free when most of us have scrimped and saved to get cars that have all the same problems as yours, but you really do seem to appreciate what you have, so I can't begrudge you that too much. Maybe keep that in mind for next time, though. And if you want a beat-up Volvo 850R with 213,000 miles that leaks oil, has various warning lights on, but is a remarkably quick turbo five-cylinder, I'd gladly trade for your GLI ;). Gotta have that five-cylinder warble going on.
If you do want to get rid of the GLI, though, I would honestly suggest, as others have done, getting something a bit slower, but still sporty. Miata is the obvious answer, but smaller hot hatches (Fiesta ST, maybe), are a good bet, too, and it's surprising what else fits the bill – I drove a tuned Skoda Scout TDI wagon a while ago, and it was actually a huge amount of fun. This is something that I found when I got my 850R – yes, it's seriously fast, but it's almost impossible to make use of all that power in everyday driving, so aside from the rare occasions when I can open the taps, it's just a big station wagon with a bone-shattering ride that drinks absurd amounts of premium fuel and breaks down all the time.
My VW Scirocco and MGA, which are a third, and a quarter as powerful as the Volvo respectively, are actually a lot more fun to drive in everyday situations, as I get to really make the most of them without even exceeding the speed limit. Even better, with the extra involvement that driving them quickly requires, bombing down a country road in them at 55mph feels like you're doing 100. I really do like my 850R, but if I'm after a genuinely fun driving experience, I'll take one of my slow cars every time.

My girlfriend hit a deer @ 40mph driving her Tahoe, knocked the whole front end off. Took me 4 hours to put it back together again, I can't imagine hitting a large animal going much faster than that. Track days are a lot of fun, as are autocrosses => this where you hoon. While on public roads use your cruise control if you don't trust yourself.

Excessively fast driving isn't the problem. It's that you aren't ON A TRACK.
130MPH is excessive on all but race tracks and the Autobahn derestricted sections. Have I done ridiculously fast speeds? Yes (and even faster than you). Illegally? Yes (Statute of limitation has run, hence the only reason I will even mention it here). But I don't do it now, because doing it on a race track is a far safer proposition than say, I-20 from Douglasville to the Perimeter, or I-57 in southern IL.
In short: I GREW UP.
My fastest ticket? 91MPH in a 55MPH zone (8 years ago). I had an Illinois license at the time and was not in IL, so this was just a really large fine and attorney fee. Had I had a GA license at the time, I would have received a 1 year suspension (as I was under 21).
And to be brutally honest, your GLI is fast enough. Forget the tune and the rest of it until you have enough money to have a second car for normal use, and *then* worry about tinkering with the VW.
